Carmen Rossitto

Clinical Psychologist & Board-approved Supervisor

Depth-oriented therapy and psychological assessment for adolescents and adults.

Who I Work With

I work with adolescents and adults across a wide range of presentations — from anxiety, depression, and life transitions through to trauma, complex emotional patterns, and difficulties that haven’t responded to previous treatment.

Many of the people I see are functioning well on the surface. They’re managing — sometimes very capably — while privately carrying something they haven’t been able to shift on their own.

I also provide comprehensive psychological assessments for ADHD and Autism in adults, and specialised assessments for specific clinical and medical contexts.

My Approach

Therapy begins with developing a genuine understanding of what you’re experiencing and what has contributed to it. That foundation matters — it’s what allows the work to go somewhere meaningful rather than staying at the surface.

My approach is integrative and depth-oriented. I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies, including EMDR, and tailor the work to each person’s history, needs, and goals. Sessions are typically longer-term, though the pace is always led by the individual.

My work is also informed by contemplative practice and an understanding of how attention, awareness, and regulation shape psychological wellbeing — not as an add-on, but as part of how I think about the work.

Experience

With over 20 years of clinical experience across public mental health, community services, research, and private practice.

Early in my career I worked in specialist youth mental health at Orygen Youth Health and the Royal Children’s Hospital CAMHS, where I assessed and treated complex presentations including early psychosis and developmental disorders. I also worked at the Lighthouse Foundation, contributing to clinical care, program development, and multidisciplinary care planning.

Prior to private practice, I contributed to large-scale developmental research at the Parenting Research Centre, including assessment and data collection with more than 2,000 families.

Before training in clinical psychology, I worked in Indigenous education — an experience that continues to inform how I work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

I grew up first-generation Italian-Australian, with parents born in Italy. Culture, language, and family have always been central to my life, and that background gives me a genuine appreciation for how deeply our roots shape who we are — the values we hold, the way we relate to the people we love, and the sense of identity we carry with us.

What I Believe

The therapeutic relationship is central to everything. Not as a backdrop to the work, but as the mechanism through which change actually happens.

I’m interested in what lies beneath the surface — the earlier experiences, the patterns of relating, the ways we’ve learned to manage that no longer serve us. That’s where lasting change tends to come from.

“What moves me most is witnessing the moment someone realises they are worthy of care, healing, and a life that feels true to who they are.”
