Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Support
Therapeutic preparation and integration support to help you get the most from psychedelic experiences and translate insights into meaningful and lasting changes in your daily life.
Psychedelic-assisted therapy
I’m often asked about psychedelic-assisted therapy (PaT) and whether I can provide this treatment. While I cannot provide the psychedelic component of this therapy under current Australian law, I do offer psychedelic-assisted therapy support – the crucial psychological preparation and integration work that forms the foundation of safe and effective psychedelic treatment.
What is psychedelic-assisted therapy support?
Psychedelic-assisted therapy support encompasses the essential therapeutic work that surrounds the medicine session itself:
- Preparation therapy – Building psychological safety, exploring intentions, addressing contraindications, and developing coping strategies for the psychedelic experience
- Integration therapy – Processing insights and experiences from psychedelic sessions, translating breakthrough moments into lasting personal change, and working through any challenging material that may arise
- Ongoing therapeutic support – Providing continuity of care before, during, and after psychedelic treatment as part of a collaborative team approach
Research shows that the therapeutic work surrounding the psychedelic experience is just as crucial as the medicine session itself for achieving lasting healing outcomes.
Current legal framework in Australia
In Australia, only authorised psychiatrists can prescribe MDMA and psilocybin for therapeutic use. I’m not able to provide the medicine component of this treatment, but I can offer the psychological preparation and integration work that surrounds it.
The importance of collaborative care
The most effective and safest approach to psychedelic-assisted therapy involves collaboration between authorised psychiatrists and experienced clinical psychologists.
This integrated model combines:
- Medical expertise for safe prescribing, psychiatric assessment, and managing any medical complications
- Psychological expertise for therapeutic preparation, guided sessions, and crucial integration work that helps clients process and incorporate their experiences
My role in supporting your journey
As part of a collaborative treatment approach, I can offer:
- Preparation therapy to help you get the most from potential psychedelic treatment
- Integration therapy following psychedelic experiences conducted with authorised prescribers
- Referrals to appropriate authorised practitioners when clinically indicated
- Ongoing psychological support as part of your treatment team
This collaborative approach ensures you receive comprehensive care that combines medical safety with specialised psychological support throughout your healing journey. If you’re interested in exploring psychedelic-assisted therapy, I’m happy to discuss whether this approach might be suitable for you and can help connect you with authorised practitioners while providing the essential psychological support component of your treatment.
